The Vesda OSI-RE-SS is a 4-wire, single-ended, reflected-type beam smoke detector with an integral sensitivity test and an 8″ reflector. Designed for large open spaces such as warehouses, atriums, and industrial facilities, it operates as part of a conventional fire alarm system using the principle of light obscuration via an Infra-Red (IR) beam.
The OSI-RE-SS is a combined transmitter/receiver unit that directs a beam of IR light toward a high-efficiency reflector. The reflected light is analyzed by the receiver to detect smoke, with changes in signal strength determining alarm conditions.

Automatic reflector tracking: The receiver’s CMOS imager tracks the reflector automatically, eliminating alignment loss due to structural or building movement.
Intelligent image processing: Optical filtering, high-speed image acquisition, and smart algorithms provide high stability, with superior resistance to sunlight, intruding objects, and other bright light sources. The detector only signals trouble under extreme saturation, preventing false alarms.
Intuitive alignment: The IR transmitter and CMOS imager are housed in a fully adjustable “eyeball” capable of ±20° vertical and 50° horizontal movement. Alignment is guided by directional arrows and LED indicators.
Laser-assisted setup: A laser tool can be inserted for long-distance alignment, followed by fine-tuning the eyeball for optimal performance. The sensitivity is automatically set based on the reflector size in the FOV.
Automatic drift compensation: The detector adjusts thresholds to compensate for gradual optical contamination.
Integrated heating option: Prevents condensation on the imager for consistent performance.
