The Triple IR (IR³) Flame Detector responds to low-frequency (1–15 Hz) flickering infra-red radiation emitted by flames during combustion. Using IR flame flicker detection, it can operate through oil, dust, water vapour, or ice layers. Unlike most IR detectors that only respond to 4.3 µm emissions from hydrocarbon flames, the IR³ sensor detects 1.0–2.7 µm light emissions, enabling it to identify almost all flickering flames—including invisible gas fires such as hydrogen.
Equipped with three IR sensors tuned to neighboring IR wavelengths, the detector can discriminate between actual flames and spurious IR sources. Advanced filters and signal processing minimize false alarms, even in challenging conditions such as flickering sunlight.
